The point value of letters in Scrabble indicates how often they are used in whatever language, I'm assuming.
For instance, the "s" that is used often in English (and other languages I imagine) is only worth 1 point, while the "z", which is used much less frequently, is worth 10 points.
Now, when you get to the final round on Wheel of Fortune the "r s t l n e" are already given to you (since those were the letters everyone used to choose in the '80s), all of which are only worth 1 point a piece.
And you have to choose three more consonants and a vowel.
Thus, it's tempting to choose "g" and "d" which are only worth 2 points in Scrabble, and therefore show up in more words in the English language, and then "p", "m" "b" or "c" which are worth 3 points, and so on.
But, I've noticed there are a lot of puzzles that are tough to solve unless you choose the right 4 point letter like "w", or even the 10 point "z", although on occasion choosing "g" and "d" and "c" seems to work.
Don't know if that helps but I love seeing people solve the final puzzle on Wheel of Fortune.
And win trips too.
Love the Prize Puzzle round.
Who would have thought those trips would be so expensive?
