It was nice to have the opportunity to see the Shaw Festival's A Christmas Carol today, an early Christmas present for the fam, who were also most eagerly impressed, especially since I helped out with the driving. It brought some of my favourite aspects of the 1951 film version to life (Dickens's novel too, 😜), including its emphasis on Scrooge's relationship with his nephew, Fred, as well as his housekeeper Mrs. Dilber (even the bed curtains scene). I thought they creatively used the space like a convivial light enchantment, that effervescently flowed with wonder, as the miser came face to face with once happier ways. I tried to get tickets last year in November, but the entire run was already sold out, so this year I planned ahead, and made swift purchases, forthcomingly, in mid-July.

Thanks for putting on such a dear and memorable production that's such a perfect complement to the season. I wish it was easier to buy Fred's Department 56 House but it seems like it's no longer in production. Scrooge's nephew adds so much to Dickens's classic play and it would be great if related celebratory traditions were reinvigorated. A wonderful afternoon to be sure. Glad I had time to make the trip, and was able to take part in the carol sing. Always great to take part in old traditions. Especially when they're being reimagined anew. The cast seemed to really love the roles they were playing. And they remarkably and munificently shone through. Well worth spending a day in the region, and a great way to stay focused while relaxing. Who knows what yet-to-come years will bring? Hopefully the present's a bright indication. Inordinately. Still recognizable as something enduring. Friends and family caught up in the moment. Some eggnog. Whatever you like this time of year, really. A stroll down a well-lit lane perhaps? Or just sitting back, soaking it in? Perhaps with Canadiens or Raptors tickets? The 12 Days of Spacemas (I think they're calling it something else these days)? Volunteer work? Snacks? I really don't know but please revel as you endearingly see fit. It's fascinating what different peoples come up with. Or have come up with, and keep altering, over the years. Variations on a generous theme. Insert electric or air guitar solo.
