It would seem strange to drive down a highway and not see signs indicating how far away the next towns are, pitched at regular intervals, but hasn't google maps done away with the need for these signs, and couldn't jurisdictions save quite a lot if they no longer posted them?

With Google Maps, you don't really need km signs on the sides of highways anymore (Montréal in 250 km etc). You just automatically know how far away your destination is.

That's millions in savings.
