Hallmark

And then sitting there
at the back of the chair
sits a lamp and a shade
who make quite a pair

For the light is diminished,
the shade mildly lit up,
mottled black darkness
and speckled light cups

Full of coffee and tea
can be seen on the table,
the sugar and cream bask
beneath the gable

They'd built high and long
over thirty-odd years,
united as one,
nothing in arrears.
