I think critics and fans misunderstood Herbie Hancock when he started to create new sounds in the 1980s. To me, he seems like an ingenious musician who spent his career trying to create new cutting edge music with whatever technology became available, not like someone who was exploiting electronics to make money.
I was always more interested in old rickety pianos myself, in old hotels, in old towns, in old forests.
Would have been cool to have been more experimental way back when though.
But I do still love those honky-tonk rhythms!
