Spring 2006

And the lake was calm
some loons swam by
I turned to look, retrace,
say hi,

Then a mink jumped up onto
my dock and shaked and
shook his wetted frock

while I just sat there,
peaceful rest,
reading forecasts tilled
in jest.

It ran by quickly, sniffing
here and there, for food
and lodging sought to
spare.

Don't know if I was e'en detected,
its locale known, its feet projected.
As I was still as nature's crest
the mink was featured at its best.
