The Borg

They were faced with the frustrating problem of seamlessly blending the organic with the technological, through the use of invasive brain implants designed to hardwire collective life.

The remodelling and recalibrations were just as horrifying as before, the experimental surgeries leaving thousands with untreatable enigmatic brain trauma.

There were mass protests critiquing the phenomenon but the technocratic state dismissed them, and preferred to believe they were definitively facilitating the evolution of their species. 

Many people followed them and as their research progressed they approved, they began to have more success which led to conflicting visions of the future.

Thought or spirit however was most indefinitely troubling, direct connections between thinking minds so thoughts could be shared without limits or boundaries.

The mechanical nature of the organic synthetically suggested there was a way, that remote psychological manifestations could be biologically linked through technoinnovations. 

Rather than continuing to experiment on live people, it was soon collectively decided, to use their research to precisely craft working individualistic models.

Finding the exacting blueprints the computer program delineating life itself, wherein which thought also existed alongside atemporal animal being, produced thousands of random creatures before they finally got it right, and the production of animate life softened the need for experimentation.

Cultures had begun to rely on AI to make their decisions for them, and it had not foreseen the inevitable scarcity nor uttered warnings about its hardships.

It was highly relied upon as billions of people asked it relevant questions, and followed its advice with openminded standing throughout the complexities of daily life.

Without oil there was no AI and people had to think once again, the grand overbearing gloomy imposition leading to madness in the most domesticated. 

The well-off had found subjective ways to creatively preserve their way of life, individually cut off from communities at large they made their way far off in the country.

Seeing their chance, the most ambitious of the disenfranchised raised their voices. 

And exclaimed in heartfelt crescendo. 

Their visionary ideas for a sustainable future. 

Time and care is articulated taken to passionately construct the alternative speeches, opposing ideologies steadfastly interwoven within their stately verbose orthodoxies.

The lofty presentation of high-minded ideals makes an impact amongst the faithful, and seems to be winning the derelict day before it's exoterically confronted.

The difficulties of learning a foreign language while simultaneously finding a job and somewhere to live, aren't lost on the filmmaking team as they showcase several scenes of inherent disillusionment. 

The manifestation of sympathetic people seeking to lend a helping hand also works well, people noting the newcomer's courage and keenly responding with tips and aid.

The focus on how things start to level out as more time passes is skillfully done, the not-so-smooth-at-times integration effectively facilitating highs and lows.

The scenes at work help to diversify the narrative as several different characters tell their tales, immigration stories from all over the world humanistically told with hardboiled eloquence.

Communal celebrations add a festive touch as the years pass with energetic resolve, the coming together of various traditions sewing resilient interactive multiplicities.

The humble transference of their origins and customs fruitfully enhances local cultural narratives.

It felt like the time of the caveman as cloistered hysterics began to erupt, and too much time had awkwardly passed to relieve the tension with play and song.

When, to make matters worse, domestic cats and dogs revolted. 

And forged wild hunting parties of their own. 

From which safe refuge could not be found.

It's utterly absurd.

Like our cherished pets would ever wildly revolt against us!

It doesn't make sense if contemporary logic is keenly taken into universal account.

Still, the scene where the gigantic pack of dogs vehemently descended on the ________ team, was crazy intense and filled with emotion through the creative use of traditional plays. 

I suppose it was a bit cliché to have the army taken out first, to make the film that much more harrowing as the snow continued to fall.

The battle at the sequestered nunnery between the sisters and the barrage of cats, was spiritually sinister in its death-defying bedlam, no doubt ill-suited to Sunday school.

Throughout, the bewildered Trundle family oddly observes the ancient imbroglio, scholastically endowed and academically inclined they can't explain the pestilent reckoning.

I loved how the hibernating animals emerged from their slumber to save the town, passionately criticizing the dogs and cats for casting off their traditional domesticity. 

Ending the film with the bucolic, Just another god damn February, left me somewhat overcome with joy, the bizarro crisis having been averted, not bad for animation. 

I suppose centrists seem like anarchists in extremist times.

Seattle Seahawks/New England Patriots: the compelling rematch over a decade later of the infamous pass that lost a Super Bowl, both teams completely new(?), and likely focused on other things. Their regular season stats are close without any noteworthy discrepancies, both having defeated a team from Los Angeles in the playoffs, both defences shining at opportune times. Seattle looks like the better team and they defeated two strong division rivals to make the Super Bowl, the Rams did seem like they might win, but the 'hawks just kept on scoring more touchdowns. I haven't been that impressed with the Patriots' offence during the postseason, but their regular season stats are crazy, it would be cool to see Drake Maye have a huge game, he's so young and incredibly fortunate. Sam Darnold looks so much like an old childhood friend though, who was often mistaken for my brother, and he's been playing exceptionally well, how could I possibly not pick him? Seattle's won 4 of their last 5 meetings and 7 of their last 10, but New England won the only game that counts, late in the 4th, 28-24. It seems like the best thing I can do for the Patriots is indeed not to pick them, since I haven't picked them three times and they've come up with three huge playoff wins. But at the end of the day, isn't that a bit crazy, bizarro mysticism likely not a factor? Seattle does look like the better team. Picking the Seahawks, hoping it's close.

Saddened by the passing of Catherine O'Hara. She's been popping up in different films and shows for my entire life. 

I thought the coolest Bo Nix moment came when Denver was playing the Giants earlier on last season. They were losing something like 26-8 with around 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter. I had to meet with a student for 15 minutes so I stopped following the game, thinking it was over. My phone dinged shortly after the session started, but I didn't look at it right away. I eventually decided to check the message and it was a friend texting to mention that "Nix was ballin'", on his way to a huge fourth quarter comeback win, Jake Plummer style. That was one of many huge wins this season. Nice to have a QB in Denver again. Indisputably, Go Broncos Go! 🏈

New England Patriots/Denver Broncos: picking the Broncos! Defence! Stidham! Payton! Go Broncos Go!

Los Angeles Rams/Seattle Seahawks: the Conference Championships are upon us and the NFC West still has no winner, Seattle claiming that sublime right while the Rams furiously and openly contest them. The Rams are the only team to have beaten the Seahawks since Oct. 5th, Seattle’s run indeed most impressive not that Los Angeles hasn’t also played well. Both of their games in 2025 were decided by a total of 3 points, the Rams winning 21-19 in Week 11, the Seahawks emerging victorious 38-37 in Week 16. The Rams have won 3 of their last 5 with 2 of those games going to overtime, and 6 of their last 10, with three of those games decided in OT. These teams are so close that Seattle only leads their all-time rivalry by a game (29-28), although in terms of postseason contention, the Rams have won both their matchups. Honestly, who knows, who knows who’ll pick up the win, these teams are way too close to call and it should be amazing seeing them play again for the Conference title. Los Angeles has played well enough to win and won in bitterly cold weather last Sunday. But the Seahawks made it look easy against a fierce 49ers team last weekend at home. I’m picking Seattle for the NFC West Title. Hoping it’s another close thriller.

It's not that I like them, or want to listen to their music, it's more that I dislike how intensely people critique them.

As time passes, the resident animals become more accustomed to his presence, and stop worrying when he shows up at the local marsh to take his pictures.

In tune with local wilderness rhythms, he begins to notice turtles on the tracks, engaged in humble exploratory actions as they carelessly observe and note and wander.

As trains often use the very same routes to conduct their commercial affairs, the artist becomes alert and watchful in his cataloguing of the turtles. 

Then one day, a train approaching, he sees a turtle on the tracks, and moves quickly to swiftly move him/her to a safe location in the forest.

His timing is somewhat off and he arrives too late however.

Only to miraculously emerge.

In the supernatural land of turtles. 

With a larger budget the land of the turtle may have seemed more convincing, not that it doesn't have its unique features which encourage light compelling applause.

I liked how the turtles he moved off the tracks were pissed when they saw him in their land, and vented their sublime frustration with grizzled undisciplined nonchalance. 

Using real turtles in the crafting of the intricate scenes may have been frustrating, if they weren't incredibly adorable and innately attuned to all things cinema.

Theresa Montesque naturally shines as the helpful mom, who takes a modest interest in her son's work while trying not to be overbearing.

Who knew that turtles were using the tracks to secretly travel between dimensions?

As the sun beats down with wild intensity.

*The voyage back to the forest is cool as well.

NFL Playoffs, Divisional Round Picks

Buffalo Bills/Denver Broncos: Picking the Broncos. Defence! Nix! Payton! Go Broncos Go! 

San Francisco 49ers/Seattle Seahawks: San Francisco impressed in its win over the Eagles last weekend, the game looking like it could go either way till the end, trick plays brilliantly executed to ensure victory, big defensive stands taking out the Super Bowl Champions. Seattle looks to be an even tougher opponent who they've already played twice this season, the classic divisional game, I love it when this happens in the playoffs. The Seahawks let in the fewest number of points in the entire league let alone 79 fewer than the 49ers, their offence also scoring the third highest number of points in the NFL, whoa Nelly, those stats are crazy. In 2025, they beat Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Houston, Minnesota, Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Carolina, while also splitting their games with the Rams and San Francisco, also falling to the Bucs in Week 5, they've only lost one game since then. Their quarterback, Sam Darnold, if I'm not mistaken, has won 29 games in the last two years, with different teams, that's got to be some kind of record, although he came up short in the Wild Card Round last year. They played in the last week of the season and I imagine the 49ers really wanted to win the game, once again, if I'm not mistaken, they would have won the division with the win and would have had the best record in the NFC. In that game, they only let Seattle score 13 points but only scored 3 themselves, for such an explosive offence, that must have been highly frustrating. The Seahawks play in a dome so the January weather shouldn't be a factor, the fans likely no rowdier than those from Philadelphia, although I really don't know much about such things. This is a divisional game though so the outcome remains uncertain, so many times division rivalries producing shocking outcomes that statistics can't predict. Seattle's pretty freakin' good though on defence and offence and they're playing at home. But they don't seem to have as many active Broncos connections. Picking San Francisco on the road!  

Houston Texans/New England Patriots: both these teams won their Wild Card games with similar styles that ruthlessly afflicted, their opposing quarterbacks with inadequacy as they helplessly tried to pull drives together. Justin Herbert and Aaron Rodgers are no slouches when it comes to winning games. But in the odd instances when they had three or four seconds to make a play (when they weren't getting smoked), as they looked down field, there was no one to throw to. Houston didn't play that well on offence until the 4th and neither did the Patriots (throughout the game) honestly, but both teams still lived to see another day, thanks to the resilient focus of their defences. Sometimes when your offence doesn't play well and you still come up with the win, it plays exceptionally well the following week. Unfortunately, both of these teams are in that scenario so even if both offences play well one of them still has to lose. I doubt either offence will make as many mistakes, and if they do, their defences should back them up, it's great to see two teams who are so evenly matched. Their might be snow on Sunday. The Texans have won three of their last 5 games versus the Patriots with one win coming in New England, but this is a much stronger Patriots team that shouldn't be quite so easy to overcome. They didn't play during the regular season so there are no fresh stats to examine, they have met twice in the Divisional Round, with New England winning both times. Houston has in fact lost in the Divisional Round 6 times in a row, while the Patriots have won 8 times in a row in that very same Round. So far in 2025, the Texans have won 10 in a row, and New England, 14 of their last 15. I don't want to irritate either team by not picking them, because I didn't pick either of them last week as well, it seems like the Patriots are destined to win another, but could this finally be Houston's Divisional Round year? It is more exciting to see a team who's never made the Conference Championships win, than one who won them 9 times in the last twenty-five odd years though. Picking Houston on the road. Los Angeles Rams/Chicago Bears: the Bears had an impressive comeback win last weekend and the Rams came close to blowing it, so it will be interesting to see what happens this freezing Sunday in Chicago. Both teams played in tough divisions where the competition was fierce, the Bears finishing 3-4 including last week's Wild Card win, Los Angeles winning 4 out of 6. They've only met twice in the playoffs after so many many years of existence, the Rams emerging victorious in 1950, Chicago shutting them out in 1985 (on the way to a Super Bowl win). Los Angeles has the better stats on offence and defence but can they play in the cold?, they did well enough last January in Philly (losing 28-22), but didn't really start to shine until the 4th. Chicago got away with one last Saturday so like Houston and New England it's time to shine, if they can just get their offence going earlier in the game things likely won't seem so wild and chaotic.  They've met 97 times in total with the Bears leading the all-time edge, but the Rams have developed a winning tradition in the last decade that may challenge Chicago's rule. The Bears have won 6 of their last 10, but L.A has won 3 of the last 5 (Chicago winning most recently), Chicago leading all-time 55-39-3, they first played in 1937 (a Bears win). Chicago hasn't had much success in recent years so it would be cool to see them win, but the Rams seem like the better team who'll come out on top if they don't beat themselves. I'm getting too old, I don't like to choose, unless it's the Broncos seeking playoff wins. But if Los Angeles wins, they'll play the winner of the 49ers/Seahawks game, and for me that's a cooler scenario. Picking the Rams on the road. Hoping they bring some sweaters.
